The ministry of economic empowerment and job creations was established as a department of economic empowerment and poverty Alleviation under Governor’s office in the year 2007 by the government of his excellency Chief Martins N. Elechi. It gained its ministerial statues in july, 2015. It was at this time that his Excellency Engr. Chief David Umahi Nweze (FNSE, FNATE) governor of Ebonyi state upgraded the hitherto department of economic empowerment and poverty alleviation to a full fledged ministry of economic empowerment and job creation.
The ministry was created with a defined mandates as enunciated in the followings:
- Poverty alleviation through job creation.
- Economic empowerment of Ebonyians particularly, woman, youths and other less privileged in the society through grant of micro loans.
- Entrepreneurial training and settlement through grant of micro loans.
APPOINTMENT OF THE FIRST COMMISSIONER FOR THE MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND JOB CREATION.
Determined not to leave any stone unturned in realizing his dream of Ebonyi state, where poverty shall be a history, his excellency, Governor Umahi decided to appoint a competent, seasoned and honest man who knows the problem of Ebonyi state as the commissioner of the ministry in the person of Rt. Hon Chief Sabinus Nwankkwegu. Rt Hon. Nwankwegu has all it takes to voyage the ministry to the next level. Infarct, his appointment as the Hon. Commissioner for the ministry of economic empowerment and job creation can rightly be described as putting square peg in a square hole. As soon as Hon. Nwankwegu was sworn in as the Hon, Commissioner for the ministry, he quickly laid bare his vision and mission statements for the young ministry.
