August 2017 Press Release from the Ministry of Economic Empowerment and Job Creation

The Honourable Commissioner for Economic Empowerment and Job Creation has charged the beneficiaries of the N250,000 Youths/Women Empowerment Programme to make effective use of the money given to them to be proud employers of Labour.

He also charged the 6 horticulturists who were trained and empowered with One Million Naira (N1, 000,000.00) each by the State Government to justify the confidence reposed in them. Barr Orji expressed dissatisfaction on the nonchalant attitude they are showing in their respective gardens, despite the whooping sum spent by the state government on the programme to uplift their living standard.


He however charged them to reciprocate the state government gesture in ensuring proper utilization of the rare opportunity. Honourable Orji stated that the Ministry will embark on monitoring of the beneficiaries across the 13 Local Government Areas to ensure that all who collected the empowerment money comply with their business plan. 

He promised that training will be offered to all beneficiaries of the various empowerment programmes so that they will be in a better position to manage the resources given to them to ensure productivity. He warned that the empowerment programme which was geared towards making life more comfortable to Ebonyi people should not be frustrated.

In his speech, the Deputy Director of the Ministry said the Ministry is poised towards proper monitoring of its programmes and charged them to wake up to their responsibilities.

The Honourable Commissioner for Economic Empowerment and Job Creation, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji has called for a strong synergy with the Federal Character Commission to ensure that the teaming unemployed Youth of Ebonyi State are gainfully employed.

Hon. Orji who made the call in his office during an interactive session with the State Coordinator of Federal Character Commission, said the mandate of the Commission was in tandem with the ministry’s responsibility to ensure that the people of Ebonyi State were not short changed in the federal government employment opportunities.

Barr. Orji Uchenna decried the imbalances that have been existing in the employment distribution at the Federal Level and therefore called for urgent need to address the imbalances. He also called on all Private/Public Institutions in the State to comply with the Federal Character Principle and state policy on equality and equity of Local Government in their employment and empowerment opportunities,

He however unveiled the ministry’s plan to develop a portal to capture the number of unemployed youths in the state for possible engagement in government work to better their lives.

Speaking earlier, the coordinator of Federal Character Commission Dr. Ohajunwa Emeka said that the mandate of the commission was to ensure equitable distribution of posts in all federal Government Institutions across the federation.

He therefore solicited the cooperation of the state government to equip the commission with internet facilities that could help them perform optimally. In a vote of thank, the Public Relation Officer of the Ministry, Mrs Ebere Orogwu thanked the Coordinator for honouring our invitation and therefore called for more effort in ensuring that Ebonyi Youth were not left behind in the federal Government Empowerment opportunities
